Meat Balls in Barbecue Sauce

500 g minced steak
1 onion, finely chopped
½ green pepper, chopped
1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
salt and pepper
1 egg, beaten
seasoned flour
2 tablespoons oil


1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup water
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
boiled rice for serving

Mix together the steak, onion and green pepper. Add the breadcrumbs, salt and pepper and bind with egg. Roll into balls with wetted hands and coat in seasoned flour. Heat oil and fry meatballs until brown on all sides. Place into a 6-cup ovenproof dish. Mix together all the sauce ingredients and pour over the meat balls. Cover dish and cook in the centre of a gas oven 160°C for 1 hour. Serve with boiled rice.
