Savoury Luncheon Slice

1 onion, chopped
1 cooking apple, chopped
2 rashers bacon, chopped
500 g sausage meat
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
salt and pepper
2 cups cooked rice
375 g shortcrust pastry
milk for glazing

Place onion, apple, bacon and sausage meat in a pan and cook for 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Add sauces, salt, pep- per, rice and combine well. Allow to cool. Divide pastry into two. Roll out one portion to line a 25 cm x 20 cm tin. Spread meat mixture evenly over base. Cover with remaining pastry. Glaze top with milk and prick well. Bake in the upper half of a gas oven 190°C for 40-45 minutes.
